When I bought this purple brocade from Craft Road, my trusted fabric supplier, I still didn’t have a clear idea in my mind.
At the beginning, I thought something for Maleficent.
However, as soon as I watched “I Medici” tv series, I fell in love with the character of Contessina de Bardi.
It was love at first sight. Moreover I had an amazing brooch, that I’ve bought in Florence at Tharros Bijoux that matches perfectly the ensamble.
While I was making the giornea (the overgown) I realized that I didn’t have the fabric for the gamurra yet. And it has to match the brocade, of course.
Hopefully, I found a lovely plum taffetta, embellished with gold trimming.
The chemise is made in cotton overlaid by a beige metalic organza, and hems defined by hand embroideries.
I might say that this is my favourite costume, so far.
